Deer Hunting

This is the picture of the doe and buck I shot last deer season (November 2006). Luke entered our names in a drawing for a hunt at a Wildlife Management Area and my name was drawn. That morning, we woke up late and got into the woods after daylight. On our way in to set up, we saw two does in a field. I shot one of the does. It was exciting! I was so nervous. I just knew I was gonna miss and Luke whispering "Shoot...shoot!" in the background didn't help. I made a good shot and she didn't go far at all.
That afternoon we sat up a two-man ground blind. We waited and waited and waited. I read a book and Luke slept - dedicated hunters. I was getting bored with the book and happened to look up in time to see two bucks walk out of the thicket. Luke had my gun in his lap, so by the time I got the gun, the first buck had already disappeared. But I was able to get a shot off at the second one - the 8 point you see in the picture. He ran off into a field of tall grasses and it took forever to find him, even though he didn't go that far. A very exciting day! My first kill and my first buck all in one day!
